Homemade Flour Tortillas (Easy)

I had no idea tortillas were so simple and easy to make, but after trying a basic tortilla recipe I realized just how little time or effort is required to make fresh tortillas. These flour tortillas are ready in less than thirty minutes, and can be eaten plain or for tacos!

Tortillas topped with butter

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 cup vegetable or canola oil

1 tbsp softened butter

1 cup hot water

1/4 tsp cumin

1/4 tsp paprika

Note* Cumin and paprika are optional, and I suggest leaving them out if you plan on using your tortillas for a sweet dish.

Steps:

1. In the bowl of a standard mixer, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and spices.

2. Once combined, keeping the mixer at medium speed, add butter, oil, and water (depending on the stickiness of your dough, more flour or water may be necessary).

3. Mix until dough does not contain unmixed ingredients.

4. Flour work surface, then transfer dough onto work surface.

5. Divide dough into portions (size of portions depends on the size you want for your tortillas).

6. Using a rolling pin, flatten dough into desired thickness.

7. With a skillet warmed over medium high heat, cook for about thirty seconds each side, or until both sides are browned slightly.

8. Serve hot or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to three days.
