My sister and I both love to bake, and I'm going to start off this post by letting you all know my sister was the one who made the cookies, not me. They were simply so delicious I felt the need to share the recipe she used. Her recipe was based off of this recipe https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/10813/best-chocolate-chip-cookies, with a few minor changes.
I don't think I know anyone who dislikes chocolate chip cookies, and these Chocolate Candy Cane cookies are just a holiday twist on the classic recipe, making them perfect for nearly any occasion near the holidays.
Anyways, let's get on to the recipe!
Ingredients:
1 cup softened butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda (cut this amount in half at high altitude)
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Approximately 1/2-1 cup coarsely crushed candy canes
Steps:
1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar, combining until no clumps remain.
3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
4. Dissolve baking soda in hot water, and combine baking soda mixture and salt into the dough.
5. Stir in flour and chocolate chips, combine thoroughly.
6. Stir in crushed candy cane bits.
7. Drop into spoonfuls on baking sheets lined with parchment paper, baking for about 10 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
8. Let cool, then enjoy immediately or seal in an airtight container for up to three days.
